Every team member is employed by Never Second – we do not believe in sub-contracting our work, so if you appoint us what you see is what you get.

Debi has worked with professional services businesses for over 18 years.  Her experience spans regional, mid-tier and Big 4 accounting firms as well as specialist and national law firms. She has worked both in-house as head of Business Development (BD) and also as a freelance consultant before establishing Never Second Limited in 2007. Debi is a hands-on proposal and BD specialist and an experienced coach and trainer.

Throughout her career in professional services she has been involved in a wide range of BD activities. She has led campaigns, coached and mentored partners and fee earners, facilitated workshop sessions and led training courses. Her bread and butter is working with teams to support competitive tenders and she offers help at any stage of the process; from project management, facilitating brainstorming sessions to draw out the key messages, developing proposal documents, coaching presentation teams through to conducting client debriefs.

In addition she has delivered a range of tailored training sessions to clients on topics including winning tenders, presentation skills and consultative selling skills.

David is a chartered accountant and tax adviser and has worked in financial services for over 20 years. He has worked as a fee earner in audit, tax and investment banking before moving into the field of sales and business development eight years ago. He is a co-founder of Never Second Limited.

David previously worked for Citibank, audited with KPMG and worked on UK M&A with SG Warburg. He was a tax adviser at Arthur Andersen before becoming Director of Bids supporting teams across all service lines involved in formal tenders and other business development activity. He was regularly involved in the design and delivery of both technical and soft skills programmes for individuals and groups.

David continues to advise professional service firms on winning business, be it through tenders or other sales initiatives working with teams across the EU and beyond. He has also been a buyer of professional services as the Finance Director of a number of start-up businesses.

Barbara is a chartered marketer and bid management specialist. Prior to joining Never Second in July 2010, Barbara spent the last six years as head of business development at Smith & Williamson, responsible for the firm’s tender best practice, client care standards and key client programme.

Barbara enjoys working with partners and their teams to help them solve the knotty complexities of the client/adviser relationship. She is an experienced article writer and conference speaker on the subject of marketing, bid best practice, client care and feedback.

As well as supporting several international tenders, she has presented at Nexia International Conferences Dublin, Delhi, Barcelona and Prague on winning new business, tender best practice, marketing and business development strategies and client care.

She co-created the Nexia tender best practice with the managing partner of Saffery Champness and project managed the creation of the tender templates on nexia.com.

André joined Never Second in September 2011 having spent over three years working in the bid team of a large FTSE 100 organisation.

André has worked in a business development environment for over six years during which time he delivered a number of substantial bids and projects for both public and private sector clients. He is accustomed to working in teams of various sizes, has developed strong interpersonal skills, is able to communicate effectively at all levels and builds rapport easily.

With extensive experience in bid coordination, project management and tender document production; André has helped assist the running of large and often complex deals. This includes managing team deliverables against deadlines, assisting in organising bid logistics and working with clients and bid team members to facilitate high quality successful bid submissions.

Richard has been with Never Second since the beginning of August 2011. Amidst his BA(Hons) degree reading Business and Management at Oxford Brookes University, he has taken a year to come and work with us; bringing new ideas and a fresh perspective to the team. Although new to the industry, Richard has high hopes of developing and maintaining professional relationships to benefit all our clients.
